Because our collective memory was temporarily blocked by our post-9/11 patriotic wartime furvor. That should be clear by now, we'll see what Tuesday tells us.

We the US has learned many things. Just not the lessons you thing we should have. We have learned not to blame the soldiers for the war. We have learned and Americans will fight when attacked. The young men of the US will come together and fight against terrorism. We have learned that when it comes to soldiers and Marines, all will give some of themselves, and many will give all. The biggest lesson the US seemed to learn I found out about when I came home on R&R. In DFW airport the standing ovation, the hugs, a few kisses, the pats on the back and the handshakes. The same thing when I got to OKC. Americans have learn to support there troops a lot better now than in Vietnam.

You forgot about Korea. Wow no wonder they call that the forgoten war. Anyways well there is only one true lesson that can be learned from war its bad and there should not be anymore but there always will be. People die at war this is true but like with N. Korea if we leave now we will just have to deal with it again in 10-50 years
If we just poof! magicly got everone out rightnow today I promise with in a week there would be a counter attack. Not to mention every other country complaining about how we are the evil empire I don't listen to other country's because I think im smarter or better or anything like that, but strictly because I get tired of no matter what the U.S. does someone is complaining. There comes a point when you just have to knuckle down and do it.

We did learn from Viet Nam. If you are referring to Iraq (which I served 1 year in Taji, US Army as a Medic), then it is like comparing apples and oranges. They are both fruit, but are different tastes. I was against going into Iraq. I did not think there was no WMD's or a connection to 9-11. However, Saddam did openly support terrorist activities that were against Israel. That said, I believe that we should stay until we stop the insurgency, whether we have to track them down and kill them or capture them. If it takes more troops, then lets do it. It will take a few years before a professional military is developed there.

Because that was so long ago. Gore Vidale calls us the United States of Amnesia. I think he's right.
Why do you think most Americans don't want to hear about the bad stuff our government is doing or has done? Because it bums them out, they can't be bothered. Just don't turn off our tv's please. In twenty years graduating high schoolers in the US won't even know we went to war in Vietnam.

because that moron didn't fought in Nam ........... he thought going to war against a pussycat like Saddam would be easy meat ........ as in Nam idiot thought that they could invade another country ....... install a few friendly leaders and they could lived happily ever after ........... they never figure that they are dealing with an ideology and not the leaders
did iraq attack us? did it have anything to do with 911? did it have connections to al qaeda? all this allegations are found to be untrue ....... that fool was forced to admit it himself ......... this a detour from the war on terror

Who didn't learn what? John Kerry learned to
put down the troops. The media learned how easy it is to get Americans to hate themselves and blame themselves for anything, even the fact the followers of prophet Mohammad said to take over the world for their religion.
everyone has learned how to lose and bow down way too easily.

I don't think you can compare this to Vietnam. We weren't attacked then; this time we were. That's like comparing Vietnam with Pearl Harbor. No comparison at all.
