Depends on their religion. I am not sure what I am allowed to say here but I personally would check out the religion online to see how much opposition there is to it in the free speech world. You won't get this kind of info anywhere else.
Mormons, for example, are very active in conversions but they also hold a record for disgruntled members leaving their church shortly after conversion and have made a lot of enemies out of them.
Give the religion the cult test. You can find that online too. If the religion shows up with a lot of cult-like tendencies, they are probably just trying to meet quotas and further affirm their beliefs.
There are some sincere people out there but in religion like in everything else, you snooze and you lose. Unfortunately the churches that recruit the best will seem to the public to be right by might.

I think for many it's because there is some command in their religion that tells them to convert others. That said, I think there are a lot who care a lot about other people, and I think there are also some who just want to see what they believe followed by everyone to make life easier, and I think there are some who look at it as getting brownie points.
All depends on the person, in other words. I think you can tell a lot by how people go about it.

I believe there are some who are sincere in their efforts to "share the wealth". As though you had a secret bank account of which you were unaware, and they want to let you know it's there for the taking. Their intentions may be pure, and they are trained to go out and spread the news.
Then there are those who are simply intolerant of other's beliefs or their right to believe otherwise.
(Assuming you mean people who want to convert YOU.)

By merely looking at how you state your question, it seems that you already know the answer.
I guess you're referring to religious conversion. Some people do it for compliance (just to follow spouse religion as condition to marriage), just to gain advantage and benefits and privilege(as in working in Middle East would be easy if you convert to Islam).
Anyway, the thing that counts is the faith preference that's in every individual..

I think you should have tacked the word 'you' onto the end of your question, people are misinterpereting it--I think people who want to convert you are really interested in your welfare, but are incapable of truly relating to you--they figure if it worked for them, it will work for anybody else, regardless of their actual lives
