Ok, my hubby's FORMAL army ball is this week. I dont want to pay to have my hair done, so I am going to do it myself. I have shoulder length, brown, very curly hair. Is it acceptable to wear my hair down or do I need to do an updo? I was going to use some glittery, crystal bobby pins that match my dress to pin the front part of my hair back, and leave the rest of my curls free.

Wear your hair up. You can still do it at home and have it look great.
Use a 3/4 inch iron or a 1". curl your hair in sections. Start at the bottom back of your head and work up and end at the front of your head. Take the crown area and just grab a hand full of hair. Twist it and bobby pin a bun type thing to your head. Kriss kross the large pins. Then take a curl at a time from the back part and start pining it loosely to that crown section you made. work with a section from each area ...back, back side, back other side. After that is done start with the sides and top. Keep pining loosely. Taking a side section, then the other side, then the top. Keep doing that until you have finished and try to hide the pins as you get closer to finishing. Leave a few loose little strings of curls down the back of your head and on the sides between the forehead and ears. It should look Grecian goddess like. Just be sure you keep it up on the crown of your head. Should look great! Good luck and God bless.

My mother and father went to Military balls and they are far more elegant than civilian parties. So wear it up.

Whoa! Edgeolive copied my answer..........what a drag!

Hope it all works out!

Sure it's acceptable. Lots of people are wearing thier hair down at formal events these days. The crystal pins will make it look real pretty too dressing it up some. Have fun!

I believe the standard for "formal" parties is still an updo.

As long as you look nice and put together it will not matter, just dont have like bule hair or anything you will be ok.

Good Luck

I think that it's completely acceptable as long as you look put together. And as long as you have the sides pulled.
