The Holy Roman Catholic Church does not ordain practicing homosexuals as priests. It sees homosexuality as a sin. In the Bible, in the old testament, it calls "homosexuality" an "abomination", so it is not an endorsement of the homosexual "lifestyle".
Now there are many homosexuals in the catholic church as in every facets of our society. Some religions, including some spiritual so called "meditation" groups tend to falsely call homosexuality "un-natural". One can say that it is "ab-normal" as "not the norm", but we now know that there are at least 450 species of animals which practice "homosexuality" for bonding, survival, and for pleasure and establishing the "pecking order".
Some see homosexuality as one of nature's methods of "limiting the birth rate" of an exploding population. Studies on rats have shown that when a population gets beyond the level of the food supply certain "birth control" mechanisms such as suicide, violence, homosexuality, disease, etc. increase.
To make homosexuality a sin is a tribal religious way of assuring that the tribe favours "breeders" so as to replenish the tribe and assure survival of the "clan" or the "species".

Hi! No, Catholicism isn't against homosexuals. Why do people always think Catholics are not tolerant? I'm a very devout Catholic with a son becoming a priest and daughter a nun. I've seen bad Catholics be judgemental and I usually see very sweet tolerant Catholics. The Bible says in many places that having sex with anyone but your married (opposite sex) partener is a sin. That means fornication(sex before marriage) adultry, masterbation, sodomy (anal sex) and lesbianism is sinful. The Church can't and won't change the Bible and must stand by the words both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Christians seem to get more passionate about homosexual sex because, in the Bible it states that right before God demolishes a race, the humans are engaging in sinful and perverted sex. (homosexuality) Is it true? It depends on how true the Bible is to you. I teach religion and we are given strict orders never to speak badly of any race, creed or beliefs. I just got done correcting the boys in my class that were making fun of gays. I had to explain that sin is sin and God hates sin cuz it upsets his plan for our existance. The sex act between 2 men or 2 women is sinful, but the homosexual is not bad. It is not wrong to fall in love with the same sex or feeling that you have homosexual tendencies. It is the sex without rightful marriage that is wrong. In our Church there are some people that live "as brother and sister" that vow not to have sex. Even with all this talk of sin--we must remember God loves Love. Who is to say which sin is more wrong. It doesn't matter--we all must stop putting each other down and the Bible says "uplift each other". I'm sorry for the things my church hasn't made more clear. We are the oldest and largest Christian Church and we are not perfect, we are humans. God made the Church, we mess it up. I'm sorry for people that mess it up, but they have their reasons for what they do and say. Catholics don't usually seek answers by reading the actual complete documents that the Church has collected and saved for 2000 yrs. I try. The media loves to harrass us and make us look foolish and hypocritical, but the most of us are just trying to do our best. I hope all is well with you! God Bless!

they claim to embrace the homosexual but say that homosexual acts or gay marriage or civil unions are against God's teachings
yes there is mention in the Bible of the abomination of men lying with other men...however, Jesus never said hate the homosexual, or hate the heterosexual...Jesus said "Love one another as I have loved you"...it's that simple, no more, no less.
hopefully mankind and the Catholic Church will come to appreciate those words
Peace

Are they against it? I do not mean to "talk back," but when I see the news, they seem steal the spotlight because a priest is a homosexual and the information is finally coming out after years of secrecy.
1 Corinthians 6:9, 10 says, "What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, [v10] nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom."
Therefore, homosexuality is not only mentioned in the Bible, but it condemns homosexuality. Yet, does it seem like homosexuality is condemned in the Catholic churces today? No.
The sad part is that many such Catholics will turn around and say that the Bible is old-fashioned and therefore condone homosexuality. How sad.

Bible or no bible, they're against homosexuality. They'll say they're against homosexual practices, not against people who are homosexuals, if they can help having sex. But in a nutshell, they are against homosexuals.

Well, it shouldn't be. We are all souls, created by God and he loves us one and all. Why be against one of God's creations?? Really!
