Ever go to a meeting? did it help? tell me what i should know...please!?!

I went for several years. I loved it! It's so great to not feel alone.
My experience is that newcomers usually just want to sit & listen the first time. Sometimes they want to talk. Either is fine.
But Alanon is NOT a place to go b*tch. It is to share feelings. That distiction can be difficult, though. Everybody gains strength from eachother. Even those who have been in Alanon for years gain strength from the newcomers.
I'd recomend it highly!

aa/na alanon they are all good but if you are faking it your wasting time. The only people that quit an addictive behavior are the ones that WANT to. Once you make your mind up to stop using these groups are good places to make friends that are clean and sober and who count on each other for the support they need

Yes, Yes, & just show up, pay attention, go to as many meetings as you can (1 /day, if possible) and you will get help.
Sound too simple? It isn't. I can't begin to explain it to you better than you just going & seeing for yourself.
I have attended AA for 13 years, clean & sober, & Al Anon off & on during that time. It (they) have completely turned my life around. You have nothing to lose by trying it. If you can't find Al Anon in the white pages of your phone book, Call Alcoholics Anonymous. They should have the meeting info you need.

I haven't, but have a family member who has gone and thought it was great!
It will help you to know that there are other people out there who are going through the same things that you are, if you have a friend or loved one who is too much into drugs or alcohol. You can make friends or just get coping strategies.
What you should know....you aren't alone in this, you aren't to blame for somebody else's problems, and when you go, just chill. Enjoy. Nobody expects anything from you there.
