Humpty was a bit of a martyr. He knew that it would take a really good egg to step up to the plate and immortalize the role of eggs in our society, forever. So he took the job on himself, knowing full well he was on a kamikaze mission. But for the good of all the other eggs, Humpty chose to pay the ultimate price, believing he would be well rewarded in the after world. What he didn't know was that once all the kings men realized that attempting to put Humpty back together again was futile, they would serve him up omlet style with a slab of bacon, to the king.

Because then there would be no need to put him together again, which would mean you would not need a poem about him, which would mean that you would never know about Humpty Dumpty in the first place.....

A man is taking a walk in Central park in New York. Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a pit bull. He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl's life.
A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says "You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers "Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl"
The man says - "But I am not a New Yorker!"
"Oh then it will say in newspapers in the morning "Brave American saves life of little girl'" - the policeman answers.
"But I am not an American!" - says the man.
