Indeed the Biblical record affirms a young earth....do not live by sight, but by faith, For as it is written, "God will destroy the wisdom of the wise...the intelligence of the intelligent he will frustrate."

The Bible has never said the earth is 6,000 years old. The confusion lies with the 6 creative days in the first chapter of Genesis. Those days have nothing to do with the creation of the earth. If you will look closely at verse 2, you will see that the earth was already in existence BEFORE the first creative day started. Those 6 "days" were vast time periods that Jehovah used to prepare the already-made earth for animal and human habitation. Before those "days" got under way, the earth could have been in existence for millions or billions of years. The Bible doesn't say.

There is a debate i nth church about "young earth" and "new earth" today. Most of this debate stems from the ancient Hebrew word for "day". To a young earth believer they would argue that God, in His ultimate power, has given the earth the appearance of looking only about 6000 years old, despite geological evidence. However, it is fair to note that methods such as carbon dating have been proven to be quite inaccurate when we look back thousands of years. An "old earth" advocate would argue that the word "day" means simply a period of time, maybe thousands or millions of years. This view is better supported with geological evidence. It also explains the time needed to go from day to day. I am not talking about evolution here, but there are certain steps that need to occur that take some time. So to answer your question, most Christians who look at the scientific evidence are in favor of "old earth" thought. There are some however that believe that the one day refers to 24 hours and God made this earth look old. In the end I guess the question really is, what is the difference either way?

The account given of creation in Genesis doesn't really place an age of the earth as It simply states that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and the earth "was" without form; and void. Note here that the word "was" to the best of my knowledge actually reads "became" in the Greek so it would suggest that the earth could have at one time been as we know it today as it was without form (a shapless mass) and void (totally lifeless) This would account for the existance of dinosaurs which scientists claim roamed the earth millions of years ago etc., It would seem that there could well have been millions if not billions of years between creation and when the Lord actually renewed the earth when he created Adam and Eve. Never mind, we will be able to ask him face to face when Jesus presents us "Holy,Unblamable and Faultless" to the Father on that day

Some fundamentalist Christians do. I'm a Christian, but I believe that the Bible was written for a specific audience at the time that didn't have the understandings of science that we have today. I try not to bother myself with all of the arguments and nit-picking the Bible to death, as no two people will ever agree on one complete interpretation of the Bible. However, I just try to live by the example of Jesus, and I wish more Christians would do the same instead of judging and arguing with everyone that doesn't think like they do.

I am not sure of the age of the earth! However!!! How can we prove that the earth is 6 thousand or 6 million years old? I have seen quite a few facts pointing to a young (6,000 yr)earth! But again if it is older than that we were not around to see it!

We get caught up in what is assumed as fact such as dinosaurs are millions of years old! I do know that dinosaurs, and plenty of them, have been around with in the past 6,000 years! FYI they are painted and carved on walls by recent civilizations that should not have known they existed if they were extinct hundreds of thousands of years ago!

Hi free t. Acually the Bible tells us the earth is a little more than 13,000 years old. Definatly not billions of years old.

We need to remember that that written history only goes back to about 5,200 years ago. There is no proof of anything older than that.

Some people try to rely on carbon 14 dating, the problem is, if you are using carbon 14 dating, you have to assume that the carbon reservoir remained constant all the way back through history. This cannot be proven. Their conclusion will be a guess at best.

Carbon 14 dating is very accurate up to about 13,000 years. After that it varies, and it varies wildly.

I was at a musem a while back and there was a display of dinosaur bones. The sign said the bones were between 60,000 and 100,000 years old. That's a margin of 40,000 years for mistake. That is not science my friend, that's guess work.

yes and no. If they are starting the religious calender from the supposed time of the creation of ADAM and EVE.But they have started their calender from the Death of Jesus on the Cross. 2006 yrs ago.
The Jewish people start their calender dating from an event that occurred 6047Yrs ago. So that is when the world started to them.
How ever if it was from the Creation of ADAM and EVE. then where did the other tribes come from and who made them and how long had they been around before ADAM and EVE were expelled from the GARDEN?

Ridiculous. Problem is... of course they believe it. Anything else would cause them to question their religion so they have to believe it. After all, it's a long slippery slope to open their mind enough to actually question the validity of what they're reading from a 2000 year old book written by mankind during a time when we still believed in dragons.

After all, someone 2000 years ago said its true so it must be true. Just like fairies, elves, brownies, dragons, etc.

well we don't know exactly but thats pretty darn close. Scientists have studied it and there is lots of other evidence but one thing is the moon dust. When NASA made the first craft that was going to land on the moon they thought the moon was going to have a layer of moon dust 2-4 feet thick because they know how much dust falls on the moon every year and that because there is no air on the moon that it would stay there and because they thought that the earth was millions of years old they made it have long landing gear when they got there the dust was only a few inches thick. ?? you never heard about that did you? research it.
