These are former U.S. military in some cases. Some have called them war profiteers...but these are basically hired by companies for security and some soldiers allege they have freely engaged Iraqi militants.

Some people really respect them, but what do you call them? Civilian contractors for what, exactly?

THese are civilians who are in Iraq fighting, not under a soldier's oath and also getting paid...

(Heroes?? When civilians attacked our country...we called it something very different.

This shouldn't be permitted and yet it is. I defy anyone to find such an outrageous example...or anything that even compares to this since The RoughRiders.)

(Capitalism is great. But deliberately profiting from war is something to be ashamed of.)

You ask and ye shall receive.

When you defy someone to show you other examples that are worse......

US Mercs have been operating in some of the worse fighting arenas in the world. A prime example of how bad things can be..Africa. In the late 70's and early 80's there was a heavy recruitment...right here in the US for "Have Gun Will Travel" types

Other countries, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Columbia, the list goes on and on.

Many people refer to these "Civilian Contractors" as professional soldiers, with good reason. They prevail, or they die, there isn't an Air Force, Navy, Marine to call on when it gets too hot. So they have to be better than their enemy....much better.

Many of these guys specialize in guerrilla tactics, tactics that are forbidden by the USMCJ. But they get the job DONE DONE DONE.

A mercenary is not a soldier who go to war because of money, mercenaries are the best of the best soldiers or professionals that will fight in a war, why some men like to do that. maybe because they like to be with people like them.

The so call mercenaries in iraq, work for private Co, there are very few Co in the world who do that type of work, the profits are very high but this days is hard to find professionals
for this type of work
.
One of the biggest Co in the business is call
the < triple Canopy > in the USA and the < dogs of war> in England.

The fact is that triple canopy is the biggest private army in the world and they work in 120 country's around the world and is suported by the US goverment but is a private business like a contractor.

The word mercenary is very old but the quality of the men that became a mercenary is the same < to fight to the end >

Our world is very unsafe this days, so it must be a private army that be capable to do what a regular army will not do.

So always remember, a war is a war maybe some times it will be peace in planet earth into them always it will be few good men's who will
fight for what they think is right.

Well whats more scary pretending your an Iraqi that is solder's which if they get shot at from a crowd cant shoot back or these Mercenaries who are in it for the $,Death and, destruction. who will shoot into a crowd of people to kill the one guy who's shooting.
I agree with them being there in a way although I see your point are guys can't shoot back in that situation my opinion if you hear gun fire and your not on the ground your either in on it or deaf. If your deaf get a buddy to help you to know when to get to the ground. Plus the fact they cant hide in religious buildings from mercenaries they don't care not the same rules as soldiers I think it gives the situation a sick balance.

Check out Blackwater USA. Lots of exmilitary and wannabes. There is speculation that they are basically a privatized army. They are being paid by Halliburton, etc (indirectly by US govt) to provide security without using military resources. Pretty ugly video floating around a few weeks ago of some of these guys shooting up cars on the highway in Iraq.

They probably carry out operations that are outside the boudries of US military operations. Thier operations include securing non Iraqi or foreign business assets and act as bodygaurds for foriegn businessmen. I don't think they necessarily engage Iraqi guerillas, that's something that the marines mostly take care of.

I was actually given permission to do contract work while I was in the military. It is a good way to get trained forces into volatile situations on the quick. I guess there are no rules for war and no clean war.

Welcome to America .....and Capitalism. It is truly a beautiful thing.

And FYI....Mercanarie is not the word I would use. They are not soldiers of fortune, just security. There is a difference. Look that up in Wiki.....
