I have a Russian girlfriend who seems to feel that kissing should only begin after a long courtship period, if at all. I am wondering just how different Russian and American courtship practices are.

I am from Russia and we tend to be a little conservative when it comes to intimate relationship. To many of us having sex on the first date is almost unthinkable. Both sides must trust each other. Trust and love often come before sex in Russia. So, my friend, you have to be patient. Try to understand her values. They are different from yours, especially if she is new to this country. Why does she think that kissing should begin after a long courtship period? The more you learn from her, the better you relationship will be. You can also read Leo Tolstoy. Many of his novels revolve around Russian family values. If she is going to college here, she will assimilate quicker.

I'm not sure that the differences lie in the fact that you come from different countries. I think it's simply a matter of up-bringing. She was most likely taught that sharing intimacies should only occur in very stable, long-term relationships, whereas you obviously have a more casual attitude towards the whole thing.

Yes,cos i have seen no big deal about giving kiss @ the first date. as for me, i dont count kissing to be anything so i can kiss @ any date either first date or long term in relationship as you can understand that i love to kiss more than anything in friendship.

No the respectful girls do not like to kiss on the first date. But if she makes the first move than that's OK, she want you to kiss her.

i like your russian girlfriend's concept. i am convinced that she wants her first kiss with her boyfriend to be special. she wants to know you well enough to trust you with her sensuality/sexuality.
