I'm thinking that religion will persist so long as there are poor and uneducated people in this world. (Assuming the religious educated rich people as an exception to the rule). It scares me that countries like N. Korea will set off a nuclear bomb, yet in the same breath, they comfort it's people that their sacred mountain will not be bothered. I know a short answer will not answer this, but maybe as a whole, a lot of good (and bad) ideas may result.

Most people who think religion is the reason for the world's woes also believe that if everyone was secular, that the world would be made a good and kind place. This sounds pretty familiar to me since that is the same belief held by most religions people. The fact is that is the whole world was X it *would* be a good and kind place. The only choice you have is to either accept that people will always have different opinions (educated or otherwise) or to live a miserable, angry and misanthropic life.

Ok. I'll try again. The reason you're not getting an answer is because the question is leading and wrong on its face. The only thing I can add is to remind you that the three biggest killers of the modern age, Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot, killed for ideology NOT religion.
Evil only comes ego and greed. Since we know the poster of this question is ruled by his ego let's hope he doesn't succumb to greed. ...On second thought true evil needs a certain degree of charm so I think we have nothing to worry about.

There is no practical way to eradicate religion. I can speculate few, steady advance of civilization for next few centuries or an encounter with outer-space aliens who will tell otherwise.
Instead of trying to get rid of something that so many people are fond of, why not try to use it to do some good? Religion is no worse than democrats, republicans, communists, kings and dictators.etc.. Religion is an abstract construct like others I mentioned above( I am sure religious people will disagree). It can either do good or bad depending on who's in charge at the time. Instead of asking a river to flow upward, try to channel it down to where it will do the most good.

Religion is but the institution that people associate with spirituality. It is something that should be noted, but not taken seriously. Because it is spirituality that is really important in our lives. You can follow the dogmas of any religion you want, but you should be true to yourself.
When people realize that they still have their spirituality, and it is all they need, that is when we will eradicate religion.

Hopefully Satan will hurry up and get his butt here so we can end this crap.
I'd say a good world nuking might end it but that would actually make it stronger, I guess if we could have a peaceful world religion wouldn't have any place anymore. But it seems we are headed to hell in a hand basket.

Why do you think the eradication of religion will bring peace? As long as humans are greedy and want another persons things their will be wars. Capitalist will war against Communist and the "have-nots" will war against the "haves"

I know some brilliant minds (myself included) that would blow you out of the water on many topics (psychology is one of my favorites and the subject I really enjoyed) I know some very prosperous Christians, who have enough but do not let it run their lives in search of more, more, more, more, more. Christ has shocked person after person, and it is so sad to see cyberspace wasted in such a vile attempt to discredit my faith. If you have a problem with being around religion, move to China. But if you reside in the great US of A be prepared to "put up" with religion because we are free to have faith or to not have faith. I support your right to reject God and I expect the same right offered to me to embrace Him.

Communism, a really charismatic speaker, or global destruction. I feel your pain and agree that religion is dangerous but everyone has their right to it.
