I would walk away from her in a heartbeat, but she has some deep down issues w/ trust and commitment. I know if I did she would only blame herself and add to her self-abasement. WTF would you do if you really did care for them?

Kiddo, your reason for staying is kind but not a good one. I understand 100% about the issues you say she has and that you dont want to add to the list. The thing is though...you cannot fix this person. If you want to do anything get her to some professional help. My guess is there is much more going on here than you have shared. Staying with her for the reasons you share...well they arent healthy ones for you even though caring. being with someone who has these sorts of problems can be very draining I imagine. The best thing you can do is develop your own boundaries and encourage her to get some professional help. Are you staying because you will feel some sort of guilt if you walk away? Consider your own feelings then you can better know what you want to do. it's a tough thing to walk away from someone you know is hurting. Just make sure you dont get manipulated into staying for the wrong reasons would be my opinion.

why leave her if you care about her? try to help her to work on her issues, especially low self-esteem problem...if you dont like her any more, leave her, she'll survive and move on eventually
