Much in the way some people smell different, cats urine can smell different as well. It is not a sign of poor health, on the contrary it is a sign that his kidneys are concentrating the urine very well and he is a good specimen. Not much you can do about it except switch to the all crystal litter that absorbs the smell much better. good luck! :)

If the cat has been neutered and it was over two months ago, your cat may have a medical problem. It is possible that he has a urinary tract infection, kidney disease, diabetes or some reason that causes dehydration. A dehydrated cat will have overly concentrated urine that will smell stronger than normal.
You should take him to the vet to make sure he does not have a medical problem. That is very important.

Has the cat been neutered for a long time. It can take a few months for all the testosterone to wash out of his system after he has been neutered. That could explain the strong unrine odor. Also, some of this could be due to diet. Be sure you are feeding a high quality food...Royal Canin is my favorite. It makes the poop less smelly too. Also, be sure to keep a fresh (changed at least twice a day) water supply available at all times.

Male cat urine smells strong regardless of whether they're neutered. I have an 8 year old tabby who has been neutered since he was 6 months old and his urine smells terrible. As long as he's eating and drinking normally, don't worry about it. Just buy a good brand of cat litter.

cat pee smells bad. peroid. theres no way around it. it could be a vitamen problem or a problem with his glans but i think its just the natural "sent". theres this new fresh-step cat litter stuff that really masks the odor. you can probably get it at petsmart or petco.

Is he getting enough water to drink? Another cat may be preventing him from getting to water when he wants.
