Is it possible to get widescreen programming without HD programming?

I'm actually away from my satellite receiver (at college) and got to thinking. I remeber seeing an aspect ratio option of change it 16x9 widescreen. I plan on buying a widescreen when the school year is over. Has anyone with Dish network tried this? If not and you have a widescreen tv, tell me, you have to go to menu, setting, etc

Not really worth your time,, the resolution would really be worse if broadcast in NTSC, I've seen the reg progs broadcast in widescreen format,, the res is worse then standard 4:3 . you can zoom it to wide screen if you like. Kinda like recording a CD onto a cassette and playing it, same idea.
