You are experiencing what is termed as "infiltration". Infiltration happens when an IV needle (catheter) is poorly inserted into the vein or when the tubing is not secured properly. It can also happen if the insertion site is close to a joint that you keep moving. Improper technic or you moving too much caused the needle to pull out/push through the vein. Fluid/blood then filled the cavity inside your arm. Symptoms are of course swelling, tenderness, discoloration, and fluid leakage. If the pain continues for an extended period, you could have thromboflebitis (not common) which is caused by unsanitary conditions (dirt on the needle or inside the tubing that has lodged inside the vein) get it checked out if so...
You had an IV in your arm for 8 hours. This is traumatizing to your body. To top it off, you probably had a poorly trained nurse who dosen't do IV's often or your veins are "difficult". Maybe you moved a little too much or bumbed it more then you should have.Take motrin, drink water, and drive on. The pain, swelling, and bruizing will go away (unless it is thromboflebitis... Muwahaha)

Yes, I have had plenty of IV's and if they have been put in wrong, it really hurts for days!!! It will get brused and lots of swelling etc. And extremely sore to touch!! So the nurse or someone put your IV in wrong. If it was in right it wouldnt hurt like that, there would be a little bruising and tender but not like that. I will take a while for it to go away, but If about a week come up or so, mabey talk to the doctor to make sure there wasnt any damage to the nerve.
Im not a nurse but Im sick a lot and i get things like that a lot!!Good Luck I hope it gets better soon!!

It can be normal to have bruising just from having a needle, so if you have had an IV it is much the same thing.
Keep an eye on it, if the bruise gets puffier or starts to hurt more contact your health care professional immediately. But if it's been 5 days I'd say that you are past the danger zone of having a vien nicked, and that your body is just recovering.

I would not be too worried about it YET. Yes bruising. But I might call my Dr or their nurse about the swelling. Just to be safe, cuz for one thing is, is that we don't know what your IV was for what kind of meds that kind of thing. I hope tha help!

It can be.If the nurse didn't get the vein right off it got have bled under the skin and caused additional bruising. If it persists have a local clinic look at it.If it's not inflamed or hot around the area it's probably alright.

Ouch that hurts.... Wait some greater days... if the discomfort would not pass away, you ought to be sure a physician. and don't attempt to masturbate at present...watch for some days. Masturbation might worsen the area if there is somewhat a topic. merely carry on some days...
