At one time I was on an extremely large dose of risperdal which i believe caused brain damage and my schizo-affective disorder. The damage is apparent in my inability to remember and concentrate as well as I used to before i was on meds. I now take abilify which helps but I was wondering if overtime will the brain repair itself and if so is there anything i can do to quicken the process?

The brain can regenerate cells. I fried my own memory doing drugs when I was 18, and have improved greatly since I started doing puzzles (logic, word, etc) I also look up anything I don't know to try to learn something everyday. :)

you need to consult a doctor. but do keep up on the vitamins and minerals. and even something is simple as vitamin C helps (orange juice). Its an anti oxidant. so is vitamin E. but vit C overdoses never hurt. Vit E overdoses can do serious harm.

btw an anti oxidant keeps good, living cells from getting "oxidized" by free radicals in your body. anti oxidation is a good thing. think of it as stopping iron from rusting. thats a good thing too right? sorry but this analogy is very basic and will not stand scientific scrutiny. im just putting everything in english for you.

the person who answered before me was too harsh. we dont know all that much about the brain. it is said that brain cells dont regenerate but in some rare cases they do. usually they dont. the good brain cells just learn to function better by forging new paths. (relearning)

this is the case with amnesiacs. ppl wiht amnesia can recover. the brain cells were damaged but some recover. and u regain some if not all your memories.

There was a study done in 1998 by researchers from Sweden that suggest, contrary to popular belief, brain cells can regenerate. You might want to talk to your doctor about a supplement to improve your memory, which I'm not going to recommend on here, sorry. I don't know what meds you are on or what other conditions you have, and I'm not a doc. Give it time, be patient, learn memorization techniques, read, study, etc.

brain cells can't regenrate. Behavior can be controlled and learned with time. Stem cells?
