It is difficult for me to accept magical thinking, so I have a very hard time understanding the why. We're perfectly capable of having morals and ethics without an invisible sky daddy standing over our shoulder with a big scary bat named "Hell" in his hands.

Maybe it's fear about the fact that the world is a big, complex, scary place where most things don't work out as planned or hoped for. An effort to feel in control of the world or other people. There's a natural human desire to feel like someone's watching out for you, protecting you from the bad stuff out there...a carryover from childhood, I'd guess.

I've never been impressed with any sermon I've ever heard, and none of the "holy" books of the many religions out there have "touched" or "inspired" me. No one has spoken any magic words that turned me into a believer, not has any threat of hellfire and torment seemed anything but rediculous.

Atheism: It's not a religion. It's a personal relationship with reality.

The belief in a deity is easily seen through the study of the workings of the brain. Every part of the brain is used to guestimate what we cannot sense. Take for example your eyes. If you repeatedly flash pictures in front of the eyes, your brain fills in the gaps that are not there. How about this. Put something in your microwave and close the door. If you hold your head still, you can vaguely see what is in there. Now move your head side to side. You never actually see more of the object inside. It is your brain putting the image together. A reason for our being is treated by the brain no differently. The brain is attempting to fill in the gaps that are not there.

I believe in God for what He has done in my life. There are a lot of situations that I cannot handle on my own. By the grace of God and His blessings and help, I have seen lots of good things and some miracles in my own life.

Because he is our Creator, and He loves us enough to give us a choice a free will to get to know Him and live for Him or live for the world (the devil) . God is always there for us, when others will leave, He is always there, waiting for us to reach out to him for our needs. To be in the presence of God is an amazing thing.
There is nothing the world can offer compared to what God can...after all He is the Creator.

I love some of the previous answers. It's cool to see how many Christians are on here! I believe in God because he saved us. Who wouldn't love and serve someone who saved us from eternity in Hell. I hope people can understand the Truth. It is hard to imagine the emptiness someone would feel if they didn't know God. I will pray for ya if you aren't saved!

God Bless!!!

Everybody believe in something. Whether it is god or not. Some people believe just because they was raised that way and they know no different.. Others believe because something in there life gave them faith.

Because there are times in life when there is desperation and there seems no way out, no friends or family.

It is then, that people turn to whatever is their interpretation of God.

Perhaps that seems wrong but believe me God is a comfort at those times even if people otherwise do not practise any religion.
