Like most things, it goes back to our caveman roots. It is there to act as a "trap". Trapping in the "odours" or pharamones that attract men, letting them know that we are ready to conceve, as originally sex was just to procreate. Now with all the scented soaps, detergents, and purfume, no one can smell us (hopefully) even if they wanted to. Hope I helped, good luck to you

Underarm hair gives a greater area for evaporation of perspiration and is close to the veins and arteries so it has most effect.
Don't forget head hair which stops getting sunburned as the head is most exposed to the sun.
Pheromones? Napoleon wrote to Josephine to say 'Coming home this weekend, don't wash' - that says it all!

Another theory is that the pubic hair keeps the genitals warm. The purpose of women's pubic hair could be similar to that of the cilia in the nose, in that it prevents small foreign particles from entering the vagina. If this is true, male pubic hair may be a vestigial trait.

most human hair is fairly vestigal since we don't need it to keep warm anymore. pubic hair however can be an indication puberty and impending sexual maturity. it also is a warning device for parasites.

It's there as protection and cushioning for your private parts. That's an interesting question, though, as one would think that clothing would provide sufficient covering. For that matter, I have often wondered why men and women have hair in their armpits.
