Yes the SR-71 was recorded at mach 3 although there are rumors it went faster however it was decommisioned, there are a few flown by NASA for testing but that's about it. Fighter jets can fly around mach 1.5 to mach 2 for about 15 minutes before running out of fuel. The F-15 is the fastest U.S. fighter, however the Mig-25 Foxbat is the fastest fighter ever built. Commercial jets are much slower. They are clocked in mach numbers usually cruising around mach .74 to mach .84, mach 1 being the speed of sound. The fastest business jet on the market is the Cessna Citation X which cruises around mach .92 which is very close to the speed of sound. The fastest airline jet was called the concorde and crused at mach 2.1 but was recently taken out of service due to the cost of flying it which made the tickets in the thousands and hard to sell enough to pay for the operation expenses. The space shuttle has been clocked at mach 25 however it is not a jet, it's a rocket when it leaves and a glider when it returns.

1650MPH: the F-15. The SR-71 and XB-70 do not fly anymore and no other jet flies as fast officially.
