very much for the past six years? He got it from his grandmother and knew when he got it that my skin reacts poorly to gold.

I used to wear it on a delicate chain, but that looks tacky or unprofessional, especially as the chain must be silver; however, we do need to signify I am married. Guys keep asking and it's annoying to explain about it every time a woman and I discuss children and she gives me that "Oh you're not married" look.... :)

So. Should we get another type of band for me or can I go on not wearing it and it not be improper? Hmm.

If you can't wear it because your skin reacts, definitely go ahead and buy another band. It's sweet that his grandmother gave it to him but I don't see anything wrong with getting a new band that you're actually able to wear. I'm sure his grandmother won't be offended if she knows you can't wear gold, just keep the old ring in your jewellery box or whatnot. :)

It sounds like a wedding ring is an important thing for you. Of course you cannot wear the gold ring if you react. There are rings made of stainless steel and titanium that work well for people who do not tolerate gold well. Or you might need to consider 18 Kt which some people tolerate better. There are beautiful bands made out of Jade and other materials as well. Metals typically break me out too. I have had very good luck with Titanium and 18 kt gold. Good luck.

Hi, I have an Idea. I have lost over 100lbs and my band no longer fit me. I asked a local Jeweler what could be done. We could not re size it because it has a design all around it, so he inter laid another band on the inside to make it fit Sort of a ring inside a ring. you could not tell he did it, and it now fits. i wonder if you could do the same thing with silver. Place a layer of silver on the inside so the gold wont touch you? It is worth asking about. Anyway, If you can't wear it try another band. the main thing is a sign of your commitment.

Getting a new band that is compatible with your skin seems to be the right solution. I am sure your husband would be pleased to buy you a ring that you can wear.
Although, my son is very sensitive to metals in general, but we put a clear coat of fingernail polish on the metals and he doesn't have any reactions, so that may be worth a try. Or if you talk to a jeweler, they may have other solutions that you could put on the ring.

I couldn't wear my wedding band when I was pregnant because how swollen my hands got. I ended up getting asked out at work. The next day I went and bought an inexpensive, yet gold, wedding band. I think it was a great thing for me to do.

They put alot of emphasis on wedding rings and marriage. if it doesn't bother you don't worry about getting another one. As long as you know in your heart that you are married, and you and your husband are okay with it. As for your wedding ring, you could get another one or you could tell people why you don't wear the wedding ring. Its no ones business if you are married or not. I say, what ever makes you happy!

Interesting question. I know a lot of men who don't wear theirs due to risk of injury on the job (getting a ring caught in machinery) but if it is important to you and your husband that you wear rings, definately get a set that you can both wear and love. Another alternative is getting rings tattooed... seems like your husband should have been a bit more considerate when choosing the rings?

You dreamed and waited your entire life to get married. The whole point of the public ceremony/civil paperwork is mainly to let everyone else know that you are spoken for. If you don't follow custom, nobody will know. So what was the point of having the ceremony (or civil paperwork) of marriage?

I say get another band but if you are comfortable not wearing anything then I don't see any harm in that either but if it was me (your husband) I would prefer you get something to wear to signify you are married.

Get a band you are not allergic to. or get a tattoo on your wedding finger. Either way will work, I think it's is important for the type of commitment you made. In my opinion.
