I am thinking about joining my volleyball team next Fall when I have graduated from highschool and in college. When I was younger I was always playing sports like basketball, softball and swimming. I miss being in sports and being as active as I was while in a sport. Can anyone tell me the basics of volleyball(for example the rules) and other rules to be a volleyball player (for example if you have to be a certain height or something). I would appreciate anyones comments and answers.

Here's my suggestion: if you have never played volleyball before on a competitive team, then first try intramural volleyball. Intramural is just for fun and you don't need any experience before playing. I am currently on an intramural volleyball team and I love it! It's just for fun so that's what makes it great! It's competitive and fun at the same time!

no offense, but don't join the team if you know nothing about the sport. they don't need a bunch of wannabees showing up w/o ever even touching a volleyball. do something else with your time, because most of the people in volleyball in college have probably been doing it all their lives and got scholarships or something like that. don't waste your time b/c it will be too hard to catch up on everything you need to know, not just the rules but how to actually play and all the skills you would need.

i suggest you join something else that you are good at.

Honestly, depending on what school you go to, if you were not a good, stand-out kind of player in high school or a club team, it's really late in the game to start on the collegiate level. And it's especially late if you have to ask what the rules are.

Maybe if you're at a small school that's putting up recruiting signs in the girls' bathroom, you may see playing time, but if you're at a large, State Division I NCAA school, go the intramural route or play on the beach with friends.

Yes playing on the team will be fun. Don't sweat the rules. You will learn as you go along. But you can go to your local bookstore and buy a rule book. they are cheap.
