Well dude, it could be one of a hundred things. There are no easy ways to check out the trouble codes on newer vehicles. You can get a code reader for relatively cheap, but without a diagnostic chart to follow and some good experience, you will not be able to figure it out. For instance you may have an oxygen sensor code, but it could be caused by a faulty fuel injector, fuel pressure regulator, intake manifold leak, and others including the o2 sensor itself. I would suggest taking it to a reputable repair shop and bite the bullet. Throwing parts at modern vehicles can cost way more than just getting it fixed. I also do not suggest the dealership either, they charge more per hour, and don't necessarily know what they are doing.

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon too and my service engine light used to turn on all the time so I took it to the shop and, picked it up later that day and the damn light turned on again. About a week ago it turned off never bothered me since. Just give time.

There is no good way to tell unless you take it to the shop and get it hooked up to the computer. It could be anything from a bad O2 sensor to a problem with the engine. Before taking it to the shop try tightening your gas cap all the way, sometimes if the cap is not tight it will cause the check engine light to come on, when you tighten it make sure it clicks 3 times.

Depends on the mileage, to some extent. Probably in need of regular service. on some vehicles, the light comes on after so many starts and does not mean that there is a problem, other than it needs servicing. When was the last time you had it in for a diagnostic check? Or a tune up?

Of course you should check it out, but some cars, my Mustang as an example, the check engine light comes on when it is time for normal maintenance services. Check you owner's manual, it will tell you how to turn this off. Just don't forget to do the scheduled maintenance or have it check by your dealership.

i own a repair shop, and there's only about 50 things it could be,one simple one is a loose gas cap on it,but there are so many things that will set this light off on it that's its really impossible to say which one it could be ,you need to take it by an auto zone and have it scanned for free, they can tell you exactly what it is for sure causing it,and like i said free, good luck with it, i hope this help,s.

just about 100% if the light is coming on there is a problem. there is a possibility that it is not a major malfunction.

if the light is orange it's a "caution" light....get it to a shop soon but it's not an emergency. The red lights are the ones you worry about
