I need a good recipe for it so my wife can get the process started.10 points for who ever gives me a good recipe!

here is the amish friendship bread starter.....do not use metal bowls or utensils...

INGREDIENTS
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
3 cups white sugar, divided
3 cups milk
DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Let stand 10 minutes. In a 2 quart container glass, plastic or ceramic container, combine 1 cup flour and 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is added. Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Cover loosely and let stand until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle. Leave loosely covered at room temperature.
On days 2 thru 4; stir starter with a spoon. Day 5; stir in 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Days 6 thru 9; stir only.
Day 10; stir in 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Remove 1 cup to make your first bread, give 2 cups to friends along with this recipe, and your favorite Amish Bread recipe. Store the remaining 1 cup starter in a container in the refrigerator, or begin the 10 day process over again (beginning with step 2)...

here is a really good recipe..using the starter...

INGREDIENTS
1 cup Amish Friendship Bread Starter
2/3 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease 2 (9x5 inch) loaf pans.
In a large bowl, combine the Amish bread starter with oil, eggs, 2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix well. Pour into prepared loaf pans.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes.

The recipe comes to us from Mrs. Norma Condon of Los Angeles. Amish Friendship Bread is a great bread for the holidays. When you've made your bread, you can give your friends a sample and the starter that made it! Then your friends can make their own and pass it along to their friends. This is why the bread is called "friendship bread". It makes a great homemade birthday and Christmas present. Church groups and hospitals have spread a lot of love and cheer by making Amish Friendship Bread for their members. Many people make it regularly just because it tastes so good!

Amish Friendship Bread is a genuine starter bread. If you know someone with a starter, you are in luck. For those of you without access to a starter, we've done our research and found a great option. It's a special starter in powder form that can be activated with flour and water; it's safe, very inexpensive and we can send it to you.

Starter for Amish Friendship Bread (G-110)

The Recipe

Important Note: Don't use metal spoons or equipment. Do not refrigerate. Use only glazed ceramic or plastic bowls or containers.

Required Main Ingredient

day 1:

day 6:

1/2 tsp salt
1 cup nuts

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Mix and pour into two well greased and sugared bread pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.

AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

2 3/4 c Skim milk
1/4 c Low-fat buttermilk
4 3/4 c All-purpose flour
1/4 c Whole wheat flour
3 c +1 t sugar
1 pk Active dry yeast
2/3 c Canola oil
1 1/4 ts Baking powder
1 Egg
1 t Ground cinnamon
1 t Vanilla extract
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 ts Baking soda
2 c Hazlenuts, chopped coarse
2 c Dried cherries

Preheat the oven to 350. In a large non reactive bowl,
mix 3/4 cup of the skim milk, the buttermilk, 3/4 cup
of the flour, the whole wheat flour, 1 t. sugar, and
the yeast. Set aside for ten minutes or until the
mixture starts to bubble. In a large mixing bowl,
place the remaining ingredients, except for the
hazlenuts and cherries and mix well. Fold in the nuts
and cherries.
Lightly wipe four 10x5x2 inch loaf pans with vegetable
oil, divide the dough among the pans and bake for one
hour of until a toothpick in the center comes out
clean.

Friendship Bread (with pudding)

45 min 10 min prep

1 cup friendship active starter
3/4 cup oil (or unsweetened applesauce)
3 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (3 1/2 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding (dry)
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F; lightly grease two loaf pans& sprinkle with cinnamon sugar if desired- set aside.
Combine all ingredients thoroughly& pour into prepared pans.
Bake 35-40 minutes.
**Trysubstituting different flavors of pudding to vary the flavor of the bread.
May also need to adjust spice, as cinnamon may not be good with other pudding flavors.

"This is a great variation to the traditional Amish Friendship Bread. My family says it's like eating chocolate cake. This bread freezes well and makes a great gift." INGREDIENTS:

1 (5.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup Amish Friendship Bread Starter
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, chocolate pudding. Make a well in the center of this mixture. Add Amish friendship bread starter, vegetable oil, milk, eggs and vanilla extract; mix well. Pour batter into prepared loaf pans.
Bake in preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean, about 60 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before removing from pan.

This great bread. My friends and I experiment with many different flavors of pudding to see just what treat your family may like best. I enjoy using cheesecake flavored pudding myself.
