He's 9....his mom is his entire world to him and he see's you as a threat that might take it away or at least right now is taking "his" time from her.

Back up some, don't show affection when he is around. He's 9 now...in a few years he will be a teen and NOT want to be around mom so you can grab her all you want then.

Be nice to the kid....after all he is dealing w/ a broken home as it is....he doesn't need his only mom and source of effection to be taken from him. To do so could make him into a woman hater later on in life.

From experience I know that he wants to make sure that your not going to come before him to his mom. Try & start by not being affectionate in front of him, then do something that he likes(play video games whatever hes into) If he lives with his dad half the time he might want a night alone with his mom.The more steps you take to make him feel important the more he will want you around

Spend some time with him playing catch, football, or go to the movies just the two of you.
Let him know that you are not taking his mom away, just that you like/ love her. My kids did the same thing. They were so used to just having me to themselves.
Definitely spend some time with him without your girlfriend and see what he thinks.

Your girlfriend needs to talk to her boy and let him know that you are not stealing her away from him. He is 9 and needs to know that mommy is there for him and that he is the most important man in her life. He needs to hear that he is 9. But he also needs to understand that you are a part of her life too.

Include him on the hugging and holding hands (whenever he is around) so he will be use to seeing you do it that way when you want to do it on your own, it won't be such a big deal to him.

Don't overthink this. Do your thing. Include him as it makes sense to include a 9 year old. Soon he won't give a poop...he'll be too busy hanging with his friends.

your both fighting for her affection ... no matter what you do he may like you but he wants more from his mom ... she needs to spend time with him alone as well as family time with the 3 of you ... at this point in his life he really needs mom .. so take a step back and allow him to bond with her and you'll really be the good guy in his eyes.

You should tell him you like his Mom very much . Do things together, you will have her later for other things. Just assure him you are his friend.
