The easiest and cheapest way would be to replace the engine with the same engine from a different TJ or possibly a Cherokee (assuming it's a 4.0L 6 cylinder, if it's a 4 cylinder stick with a TJ) or rebuild the engine you already have.

A popular Jeep engine swap would be a 4.3L GM V6, or small block V8. However switching to these will be expensive. Engine mounts, transmission adapters, exhaust fabrication, radiator upgrades, engine computer (if you stick with fuel injection) etc... will all have to be swapped out, fabricated, or purchased. You're getting the picture. Another problem is that the small block V8 makes more horsepower and torque than the stock engine put out. The transmission, and some if not all of the drivetrain may not live very long behind that swap.

Changing to a Toyota engine could be done I suppose, but you would have to fabricate too much to make this an economical solution. It would be much MUCH cheaper to sell the Jeep and buy a different vehicle if you went this route.

The stock engine is either a 2.5 L AMC 150 Inline-4 or a 4.0 L AMC Straight-6. The 4.0 is also found in Cherokees and Grand Cherokees. There aren't any other choices for direct replacement.

The easiest thing to do would be install a new engine and transmission (gear). A diiferent engine WILL NOT fit your transmission, but fitting the drive shaft to a new transmission and engine will be easier. You will have to get all new computers for the engine.

Then you will have to modify the mounts and move things around to get the engine to fit. New throttle and shift linkages will have to be made.

It will be far easier and cheaper to buy a vehicle that has the engine you want in it.

no you will not be able to use that engine due to the computers being different and the transmission not mating up you could do it if you really wanted but why on earth would you want to
