Yes. I love sushi, and eel makes for very good sushi. The meat is tender and meaty, not fishy like other fish. I guess you could compare it with... well. It's difficult to compare with anything really. Eel really is a unique fish. Ha ha, sad thing is, most people don't even know whether it's a land animal or a fish, so they have nothing to compare it to. It really doesn't have a distinguished taste, and when it's fileted without the skin and depending on who prepares it, it's taste is either tender and subtle, or grisly and sorta strong. I hope when you try it you like it. It really is pretty good, especially sashimi style. ;)

Eel sushi is one of my favorites. It's so good.
by the way, eel sushi is not made w/ raw eel, it's made with roasted eel (unagi).
If you have a nearby asian market, you might be able to find some - already cooked, vacuum sealed and frozen eel filets. Pick up a bottle of eel sauce, and some rice.
Cook/heat eel according to package instructions. Pour some eel sauce on top
serve w/ hot rice. yum.
I've also had fresh eel, and it was delicious, but very bony - lots of work to eat it.

Oh, yes, it's delicious -- but it has a slightly muddy after-taste. The best and freshest eel won't.

I live in Japan, and I eat eel that has been cooked and covered with a sweet soy-sauce-based sauce -- it's called unagi. I love the charcoal flavor and the sweetness. People eat it in the summer because it's supposed to give you stamina against the summer heat. There's one day in particular in Late July (it's determined by the old Japanese calendar, so it changes every year) when you are supposed to eat it, and all the stores sell it.

I'd say give it a shot if you are eating it prepared by a professional.

Eel is wonderful and very tasy. Someone else left an answer saying that sushi -wise it is raw. Eel is absolutely not served raw. Not all sushi is raw. The word 'sushi' means vinegared rice. So don't be scared to give it a try -its fantastic!

Yes I have eaten eel many times. It can be cooked in different ways like poached, fried or stewed. My favorite though is smoked! It has a very delicate taste, not so "fishy" . Try it!

No, I haven't eaten eel before, but would like to try it. I really like fish and seafood of all kinds, but I won't do sushi. To those of you who complain about fishy or muddy tasting fish. If the fish is cleaned while it is fresh and alive, and cleaned properly, it should not taste or smell fishy or muddy.

I have gotten some canned eel from UWAJIMAYA here in Seattle....
http://www.uwajimaya.com/
I liked it.
In Japan they put them in SAKI...alive I think.....get them good and soused.
Didn't have strong fish taste. Not to me anyway.
Texture was OK.
Nothing repulsive about it

An eel is a fish. Not a snake or a worm:):).
I would even be game for eating snake.

Weird but tasty...
Weird but tasty foods include jellyfish, raw fish, eel, porcupine,

In some ways, you can't cook them because they are illegal. But if you go to China you can try them.
These dishes are made of snake, porcupine, or eel. Believe me they are good! You could try snake soup or fried snake. Try the soup. It is the best. It is very sweet and clear.

But if u're so curiously with the taste, y dun't u try it then?
