Soft and brown all through the apple.

It really depends on who is eating it -- in the old days, people didn't have the luxury of being picky, and would just cut out the brown spots and the worm holes. These days, people reject an apple just because of a little scar or blemish.

You should be able to tell just by the texture/feeling it. If it's too soft then it's no good. If you've already peeled it, just judge by the color; there shouldn't be any brown spots, etc.

If it starts getting soft spots, then it's starting to go bad. If it starts getting wrinkles, then you know it's starting to go bad.
