In 1969 I was born on an Army base in Asmara, Africa. Technically, I'm an American citizen, since I was born on "US soil". I tried getting help from the State Dept with no luck. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Were your parents American citizens?

Your parents should have filed a Report of Birth Abroad with the American embassy. The military fills out all the paperwork and all the parents have to do is sign it. The State Department should be able to provide you with a copy.

If the report wasn't filed how did you get an American passport? I don't see how the embassy could have issued you one without documentation of your birth. Without the passport how could you gain entry to the United States? Even an infant needs a passport.

Being born on an American Military base, in a country other than America does not make you an American Citizen, neither does it qualify you to any rights to become an American Citizen.

Write to the US State Department and ask for information concerning US Citizenship.

While working for the Dept Of The Army, assigned to Heidelberg Germany,. Patton Barracks, Am a Retired Army Veteran (24 years), my wife gave birth to our son and our daughter, in Germany.

My wife is American, was also working for the US Government.
When our children were born in Germany, we had less than a month to report their birth to the US Consulate/Embassy in Germany and present official hospital birth records in order for our children to obtain American Citizenship. Had we failed to do that, they would not and could not claim American Citizenship!

You should be able to obtain a copy of your birth certificate from the Department of the Army if your parents were employed or on active duty with the Army or any of the armed forces.
