OMG I no how you feel and my biggest dread is to be addicted!
If the pain killers do to you what they do to me this makes the day very hard to get through.
I will keep up on your post to see what others advice is to you!
I have started taking a drug that is working for my pain, email me if you would like to speak more in depth.
14 Years the doctors must no about this right?
Wish you well and I am so sorry I could not help more....

You are addicted. Anyone that needs to take pain pills for that long of a time becomes addicted whether they want to or not.
I seriously doubt that you will ever get off the pain pills at this point depending on how serious your accident was, but there are some things that you can do.
Talk with someone about your use of these drugs. Research the drugs, and addiction on the internet.
It sounds as if your wife is frustrated with you and she may be seeing behavior changes in you that you don't even recognize. Maybe she is noticing that you are taking more of the pills.
After 14 years you should really NOT be taking so many. There are other ways to help maintain and control your pain. Therapy is one of them, occupying yourself and your mind with something positive and healing is another. Exercise is good too.
Don't take what your wife is saying in a negative way. Of course you are addicted. 14 years worth of pain medications tells me that you are. Nothing to be ashamed of, just take note of what she is saying and start looking for other alternatives.
Wish you the best.

Only you can really answer the question as to whether you are addicted or not. If you are, there are a lot of 12-step programs like AA and NA that helps out with this if you can't afford counseling. Maybe try to attend one of their meetings, and see if you identify with the people in the group. If you find out you are addicted, and need to stop there are other ways of pain management like pain clinics, acupuncture and hypnosis. Hint: if you take pain pills when you aren't in pain, you probably should seek some help. I hope you the best of luck.

Ok, you probably are addicted after 14 yrs but this does not mean that you do not need them...........you need to go to a pain specialist and let them moniter you. I have chronic pain also..................2 major back surgeries last year..............knee surgery last week so that i can have a hip replacement??????????????? What's next? So i can relate with you about the pain!!! Get to a good pain clinic and be HONEST with them or then they cannot help you?????????????????????????????
