Why does it take three years to get permission to immigrate to the US to work?

One of the reasons given for the flood of undocumented immigrants is the time it takes to get a permit? Why is this the case or is it the case?

Three years? You must be smoking crack. My wife's family has a 22 year wait for 4th preference immigrant visas. That's what drives us nuts when we see Mexicans who came here illegally demanding they be treated special. Let them go back to Mexico and wait.

To anwer your first question, there is a numerical limit on the number of work-based immigrant visas issued every year. If the demand exceeds the supply, then the leftovers have to wait until the following year. After the second year fills up... well, you get it.

Your second question: undocumented workers very, very rarely take the kinds of jobs that qualify people for immigrant visas. Here are the types of employment-based immigrant visas, and the qualifications for them. I'm sure you'll see that the ordinary undereducated, non-professional illegal immigrant will probably not qualify for such work:

It is because its an honor to come to the united states in if it does take 3 years to come here then consider it time well spent as for 9inches Ive never lost a job to anyone and if you have then maybe you should take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and wonder what you were doing wrong in the first place that made your employer have to look for a new employee.

I've heard it is true and if it is it's ridiculous. We need to do both, secure the border so we know who's comming in. And speed up the process. I've heard Europeans are imigrating to Canada because it takes too long to get into the U.S. Makes no sense.
