God obviously has a connection with love and not wanting to cause harm, so why deny him??

"Except god doesn't mean any of those things. It means diety, a ruling body within the "beyond" or "heaven" as you would likely put it. Many athiests are good people, good parents and kind hearted people. Just because they don't believe your god exists doesn't mean that they're bad people. It's just a matter of opinion and who is "dominant"... meaning christian folk who like being zealous about their religion. Leave the athiests alone."
Dominance to you sounds more like a sexual thing. God is all loving-makes no sexual distinction, and is deep in the boundless aspects of the universe. Grow some faith instead of being all to physical. Have you ever heard of faith?? Things you can't touch, see or smell?? Of course not.

The problem with this question is that christians seem to think that atheists are immoral because they don't believe in God. I'm agnostic myself, but a staunch non-believer in the Judeo-Christian theological system. Why, you ask? Because I believe in being good for goodness' sake, not because I hope some higher power will reward me for it in the afterlife.
To answer the inevitable question that will follow that response, saying that "Well, if atheists DO have morals, and those morals are represented by God, then why don't they just believe in God?" Is like saying "You like to read, and there are plenty of books in the library, so why don't you become a librarian?" The simple answer is that not everyone wants to be tied down to a particular path for the rest of their lives, especially if that path is a religion has had so much bad press over the last few thousand years of human history.
Atheists are no better or worse than anyone else on this Earth. We just don't spend our time trying to convert people to our non-religion. :)
P.S. That reward Judeo-Christians get in the afterlife? You know, the whole "You get to sing about God's glory for the rest of eternity" bit? KINDA LAME. I'm still trying to figure out how a religion that claims to oppose tyranny and slavery has built their entire afterlife around the concept.

I have SEEN and witnessed so many miracles that I know that there is definitely something going on.what this God is I don't know. exactly how the spirit of God works I do not know. but I KNOW in my heart. that there is a God that there is a spirit of God and I know I have an eternal soul. And I am gratefull. To denie the Holy Ghost. is the Only unpardonable sin,A sin is simply anything that comes between you and the spirit of God.When a person says that there is no higher power, you cut yourself off from the spirit.Go with God.

I do not deny trust, love, honesty, respect for the lives of others, or respect for my Parents. This does not make me believe in God.
You forget that a person must think of something as real to believe in it. I do not think of God as real. I have wanted to. I have desperately wanted to but wanting did not make a fantasy truth.
Do you need to think something is real before you believe in it? I do. I cannot pretend to believe in God and hope that will make it real.
God does not mean those things you have listed, God means a deity, a being that controls the universe - and in your religion, God means that and a being that cares about humanity and requires worship. If your definition of what God is were correct, then most atheists could be said to believe in God because they have morals. God is not morals, God is a supreme being. You can have morals without belief in a supreme being.
Also, to think of something as not real is not to deny something. Denial implies a knowledge being willfully hidden - in this case a belief - but in atheism there is no belief being hidden God is simply seen as not real.

The problem is that god means all of those things in the name of a superior imaginary being, that you're supposed to change your behaviour for.
And the problem is that god entails a lot of OTHER things, like manipulation and brainwashing that I'm not about to accept. So I won't deny love, not committing murder (of my parents or otherwise), honesty, and so on, but NOT in the name of god.

You are saying that without accepting "GOD" we cannot have or would do these things. But the truth remains that "GOD" does not represent any of these things, humanity is capable of great acts of kindness or hate, it does not take "GOD" for these things to be true. You have to realise that atheists love, atheists are honest people, atheists are law abiding citizens in as much as people who have accepted "GOD" are law abiding. There is no difference between people of faith in the divine and those who deny the divine. You are blind to the human condition if you truly believe that only people of faith can be decent people. Depending on your interpretation of decent of course. We define ourselves through our actions, never soley on belief.
You wave the word faith around like it is something that only you can lay claim to. You use your faith as a bludgeon with which to preach at people with. But true faith is trust in itself, trust that your beliefs are true and correct within the context of your own identity whether faith in the divine or faith in a conecpt. You belittle yourself and those you claim to represent when you denounce your fellow man. Someone made a reference to John 8:7 in a question earlier, I may be an atheist but the passages literary worth and interpretation are perhaps suited here, "He that is without sin, let him first cast a stone". Be true to yourself, then you'll be true to others in turn.

the problem is god doesn't simply mean any of those things, implicit within the word "god" are the guilt of 2000 years of religious genocide carried out in service of that word. Humanity, that's a word that could translate to love, honesty, etc but so many inhumane acts have been carried out in the name of "god" I don't think you can seriously even postulate that the word equates "simply" to those things. God is a control mechanism and ever will one man kill another man for believing in a slightly different version of "god". Most people are atheist towards Thor, Woden, Aphrodite, Zeus, Titan......some people just go one god further.

Yes, because God doesn't mean that. It means some supernatural being, and that's what I reject. If 'Satan' meant 'love', would you worship Satan? Basically the same question. The God in your bible means none of those things - you are what you do.
