My son is addicted to candy. He smuggles it home from school, and steals from friends, teachers, and everyone he can at school. Is this an early sign of drug use? Should I lock him up in his room while I can? I don't give him candy so it is not like I can cut it off. I went to that web site where you learn ways to help your kids from smoking that gives you ways to start conversations, and used those with candy as the main idea. Nothing works though. I am hoping I can get some help. Thanks you.

maybe its not the candy, but the sneacking and stealing that is the problem. It is probably the thrill of doing something forbidden.

Try allowing a small amount of candy every day and see if the behavoir stops. It could also be rebellion against your rules.

this is a dangerous road your child is on, and yes it might lead to drug use. It sounds like your child has fetish for exotic and illegal things. I think you must take him to boot camp or lock him in a cage to get the sugar out of his system. like cocaine, sugar remains in the system for a while, after 3 weeks they should be better. Also if you send them to boot camp they will break the stealing curse and learn how to shine my shoes. I have noticed that I never see anyone in those shoe shining booths at the airport. that would be a great career move for a young 8 year old

i love candy with all my heart but i got away from it when i ate waaaaayyyyyyyy too much!!!!!!
just get him sick over it once and he will stop. but his crave for it mite be because you don't let him have any. just give him a little every two weeks and confront him about it. i don't think he is on drugs. he just wants something good and sweet. and there is NO such thing as addiction to candy. the body does not crave it. in fact it trys not to take it but our mind says it is good so we want more. it's just natural. it may be a sign of getting fat. but you can teach him how to stop himself from eating when he doesn't need it.

as soon as I read the question line, I got up to find my kids candy bags. No its not an early sign of drug use, but he obviously has impulse control issues that need to be taken care of, maybe your doctor can help.

It is because sugar causes the brain to produce Serotonin. Not only does your son get a "sugar high" he also gets a REAL high. You might wish to have your child evaluated by his physician for depression.

I think because of the sugar it makes you hyperactive.
