A few more details would be helpful. What is your texture type? Fine , med. or coarse? What is your nationality? All these things factor into the answer. For white hair types Redkin shampoo and conditioners work nice with a little mousse added before styling. The grossness you mention may be because the products are too heavy for your hair type. Hispanic types can use the boosters and it works well if they have coarser type texture. Black hair requires products made for different hair types also. Most people do not realize that not all hair is the same. Just because products are manufactured to do certain things like activate curl does not always mean it works for everyone. Some times it takes trial and error and that can get expensive. When you see others with your hair type and you like the way their hair looks ask them if they would mind sharing what products they use? Most people are delighted to share because you noticed. The styling technique used can make a big difference too

Curl Activators, boosters, and other similar hair products contain way too many unnecessary additives. If you really love curls, go to your local salon and rock a flexirod style.

activators when used too much, makes your hair greasy. you should try perm rods and a hair creme that does not weigh your hair down
