A student made the same question to me the other day. You do that when you are still learning another language, but when the time passes, and when you actually speak the other language completely, you start thinking in the new language, every time you speak it. That's what happened to me when I started to learn English. I "switch" very easily from Eng. to Sp whenever I need it but I'm not sure about other people though...

I actually think in my second language, Spanish, a lot. A friend of mine (native-born Colombian) whose spoken English is flawless, told me that she almost always speaks in Spanish. So I guess it depends.
