A darned good question and rated accordingly!
Regardless how many billboards that dot the highways and roads and the TV commercials speaking out and educating the masses on the addictive nature of illicit drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, too many people choose to ignore the admonitions and do as they please.
They may think, "It won't happen to me. I can quit anytime." But few can quit once hooked and the process of quitting any of those addictions are painfully realized.
I much prefer to be in control of my bodily appetites than having my body dictate to me what it craves--other than food, air, and water.
It doesn't matter how much the media educates the public, it won't matter to a hill of beans. People will continue to abuse their bodies because of the thrill, the high, and even the let-down to satisfy their demonic urges. The same equation fits all the education combatting teenage pregnancies. That will continue too.
I find it sad.

People are generally in their teens when they're introduced to these things. Teenagers typically do not heed what older adults tell them about drugs (drugs are bad m'kay) so by the time the teen becomes Mr. or Miss adult.....it's too late.
If everyone would just watch Intervention and stay content w/ the fact that a moments high isn't worth a lifetime of addiction and chaos, they would be alright. But nooooo, gotta be like the "cool" kids. ;)

Excessive noises from Stereos, Car Radios, Rock Bands, Loud music, cell phones, etc.. etc.. are also dictators that make people go deft and yes and even cause deaths. They are also dictators of diseases and large health problems forced on us, so why do we bow down to children who own them?

You are right. These substances are habit forming and whosoever takes it is useless and has to become the slave of these habits. The temple of God is our body. Do not abuse it by consuming these things. Cancers, mental disease and a host of other problems befall the user

if these subsances were outlawed, they would go right to the black market and cause all kinds of other problems.
prohibition was tried for 17 or so years. it never worked. it still doesnt work. it is a personal desicion to use or not use these kinds of substances, and the tolls will be taken.
live and let live, my friend.

People engage in these activities because they ENJOY doing it. They may have regrets after the fact but if they didn't get pleasure out of it, they wouldnt do it

I do not accept to bow down before them!
Just as I do not accept to bow down before the automobile, fast food or the firearm industry!

Thanks Captain Obvious.
Why do people eat fast food? Why do people have eating disorders? Why do people hate their neighbor because they are different races or religions?
Pretty much, many people do not have effective coping strategies, so they do things (sometimes harmful) that help them take their mind off the bad.

And so are food, caffeine, sex, and love...
People get addicted to just about anything. I would advocate helping anyone who wants help. I would not go so far as "forbidding" the use of such things.
