How do you describe the covenant between God and the Jewish people as it is narrated in Torah? What do you think, personally, about referring to the Jews as “the chosen people?” What are the flaws in the notion of a “chosen people?” How do you think Jews feel about being the chosen ones?

Many of us feel uncomfortable with the "chosen" label, because in our long history as a people we have suffered countless expulsions and massacres. Thus, most of us want to be left alone: No labels, no resentment; just live and let live...

G-d chose the jewish people to a "kingdom of priests". Just as the jewish priests serve a role as rolemodels for the jewish people, so too do the jewish people serve as role models for the world. (or, at least that is our job. It is a tough job and one which is difficult to live up to.) It doesn't make us better, but it does give us more responsibilities.

No one is superior to another. I am Jewish and I don't consider myself any better than another. I do consider myself much more open minded than other people but that's to everyone and because I am one of a kind.

please note that when non-jews speak of "chosen ones", they have an entirely different idea of what that means than what actual jews consider it to mean.
