Good for you. Many parents enjoy the Holloween activities with their children, and most children remember the fun. You are a good parent. Yay for you!!

Every year before we set out, we pick up a pizza. Then we go over all our rules, #1No eating ANY candy until we get home and check it, #2 Stay with an adult at all times (there are too many perverts out there these days), #3 Never go into a person's house or go off alone with a stranger (if they listened to rule 2 then this would not be an issue.) #4 ALWAYS say thank you and Happy Halloween.
Every year we have tried to do something different: this year (from 5:30 to 8:00) we did the Booseum Bash where we went downtown to all of the museums which were open for free, and the kids got to "trick or treat" to each museum and participate in a bunch of activities; last year it rained so we took the boys to our church's "fall festival" it was boring for us parents, but the kids had fun with it; the year prior we took them to Boo at the Zoo, which was more fun than I expected it to be; and before that we trick or treated on the Air Force Base. Now that the boys are getting older we are letting them "help" us choose what we do. They feel like they are getting to help make grown up choices, which is very important for children.

We did trick or treating in 2 parts... The town we live in closes Main Street and all the businesses hand out candy and the kids have full run of the street from 3-5 pm... (We went from 3:15- 4:30) Then had dinner (McDonalds) at 6 I took my daughter Trick or treating around the neighborhood for about an hour... She got roughly 5 lbs of candy total... She was allowed to eat 4 pieces of her choice tonight....
If this year goes like the last several years I will be throwing away 2-3 lbs of candy in February...

Our neighborhood does trick or treat the sunday before Halloween, so today was a little anticlimactic for my kids. When we went out on Sunday evening we were gone about an hour and a half. I made mine eat dinner before hand too! They weren't too happy about it, but I told them a dinner of mini Snickers wasn't going to cut it, even if it was two days before Halloween! I let them each eat 2 or 3 pieces after we got home a checked everything out. They had such a good time and what a haul! No full size candy bars this year, but the variety was great!

I don't think it's a good idea to be out that long so we usually only go for about an hour. After an hour, they already have so much candy there's no need to go any longer anyway. It was pretty cold out so we only went for a little while. We went around the neighborhood once for about 20 minutes and then went home. Later we went back out and hit all the houses we missed before for about 30 minutes. They haven't had very much candy, a few pieces here and there.

Yes, I told my kids if they didn't eat dinner, they couldn't go out. So they ate pretty well. They went out for about 2 hours, then they were allowed to eat 4 pieces of candy before they had to brush their teeth and go to bed. Then they will be allowed to have a few pieces of candy every day till it's gone. But I also tell them that if I find any wrappers on the floor, I throw 1 piece of candy away for every wrapper. Keeps the house clean and I always end up throwing some candy away.

We went for an hour (6-7) and then came home so my oldest could hand out candy. Meanwhile I sorted the candy into that which contains trans fat and that which does not. My kids then made a big show of throwing away all the candy that has trans fat. I let them eat a few pieces of the approved candy and then it was off to bed.

My kids are grown with their own now, but when they were that age we would only go for a few hours. Plus we live in Minnesota and its usually really cold, like tonight its down in the lower 30's. As far as candy we only let them eat a few things a day, they would have to have it all inspected and then they would put it in a big bowl together and everyday they would get a few treats.

I had 2 3yr olds at my house today (roommate & roommate's gf's respective kids). They just went down our street and back (about 10 houses). Then they had to eat dinner and only had 1 piece of candy each before bed. They had a blast, and we didnt end up with a bucket full of candy that we don't want them to eat in the first place.

We went for a couple of hours. My daughters froze! Its like 25 degrees out so we ended up going to a church carnival that was inside much warmer. They ate few pieces and saved the rest little do they know we ended up giving the candy away to my husbands office.

8 and 20 months. Superman and a bunny rabit. We were out from five to seven. It got chilly and I work at 6am, so we came in. I let the big one gorge, but after tonight, it get rationed. THe little one didn't really get that it was candy, he just liked meeting all sorts of people and being out late.
They both ate dinner. Sonic was giving away hotdogs to trick or treaters, and I fixed a light dinner when we got in.
