If your group is represented as voters (gender, religion, profession, class, age, etc.), then the politicians are more likely to try to keep you happy.

With religious zealots about its impossible to protect that right. Sure. You've got the right to your beliefs, but tell a christian you're a satanist, or atheist or any other religion besides christian and if you're unfortunate enough to get a zealot then you'll get a load of garbage about going to hell. Then there's emotional damage, unless you're a satanist and WANT to go to hell, and crying and depression and your right and freedom of speach is being trampled by zealots who are really, really loud. Unfortunately.

What is to protect? I don't see how people would ever lose the ability to say "hi, I'm ___fill in religion___" or "I'm becoming a __fill in religion" or to have and go to places of worship...

To protect our rights we will have to take to the streets and demand it Back ,they have about taken it all away,second we must be people who respect and chaity for our neighbors and there rights to have different paths to God, third we must have love in our hearts
