The drool part is good. He is just showing you how happy and comfortable he is. He has got his mouth in the position he used to have it in when he nursed, so he's totally comfortable with you. If the drool stinks, you have an oral hygiene problem. Take him to the vet asap, he may have an impacted tooth, that could kill him.

He's 13, I would think you'd be used to it by now. I am more concerned that his drool stinks. Bring him to a vet with a dental clinic. His teeth most likely need cleaned and that should cut down on the smell.

This is common in cats....and yes it is because of sheer excitement!! So keep doing whatever your doing your cat is loving it!! By the way, if humans went 13 years without brushing our teeth, whatever came out of our mouths would stink too!! LOL!!!

There are several reasons actually! (link to the info in sources in my post) Could be he is just happy, could be sick or in pain, he could also have something more serious going on. Monitor how long he is doing it and if it's excessive or lasts longer than 30 minutes, you need to take him to the vet. Go to the link I provided and you'll get a lot more details! Good luck!

I havent read any one else's responses to this question, and I'm sure this is going to be a repeat answer.

Take him to your vet. At his age his teeth are probably bad, especially since he has bad breath. Do it soon, he is probably in pain. He may not act like he is, but cats adapt to pain, some have it for so long it becomes part of them and they live with it. Please take him as soon as you can. Good luck, keep us posted.

Yes, it is normal.
Though if it smells really bad he could have tooth problems.
