mmh... that's a great question, I think that the most Iogical answer would be to be always around native American speakers (you know, get more American friends and get out a little from your native environment) but I have known a lot of people who have been living in the States for like 30 years, they've got 500 American friends, speak the language every day, but still their accent doesn't sound very "American". On the other hand, I have developed a very good accent myself, without living in the U.S., so I guess it kind of depends on some natural skill or something... but what I'm going to say to you is that singing and watching TV shows in English more than Spanish, has helped me A LOT. So... try it... or ask someone to help you with some pronunciation, like the TH sound, the S at the end of the words, etc. it's a whole technique, you know?

Are you talking about Native Americans, as in the Lone Ranger's sidekick Tonto kind of Native American, or just someone that was born in the U.S.? There's so many different kinds of accents, that everybody sounds different. Just embrace being different, stop trying to be like everybody else.

The "ideal" accent can be found among newscasters. Listen to US news reporters, if any of them have regional accents, they lose them quickly to develop a generic North American, USA-type accent that's acceptable everywhere.

watch movies and listen to books on tape. listen to people talk when you're on the bus or subway. read things out loud and listen to how you're saying the words. good luck with that.
