looking for the write direction in having a building donated to us for the purpose of a communtiy youth center. Who can we go to, what sites are available for free. all site i end up want money for information.

Put your need out into the community and it would have to be a very generous donation give from someone within the community. this is not unheard of however. Go to the city council meetings and make your need known, or make an announcement in the local newspaper. I am not sure how large or small your town is or city. However, I live in a rural community and the news travels very fast. Our first Domestic Violence Shelter was a donated house. you could also go to someone within your community that has had some building donated to them or has had a similar situation of working with non profit agencies and ask these questions. The United Way is a good place to begin your search for answers. Good luck and God bless

Start with putting your facts together in a documented proposal... who you are, what your needs are, what your services are for what population, your legal structure (just being a nonprofit organization makes you eligible to recieve donations and not subjugate you and your donor to tax consequences). The Community division of major banks are excellent to approach and they themselves have donated numerous properties to charitable causes (usually under the Community Reinvestment ACT - "CRA" mandating such actions for certain banks).
Lastly, I know from 30 years experience in the field... contract yourself a good Grant Writer who KNOWS what needs to be done and has resources already.
