Yes I do. These are usually harvested eggs from women who have undergone fertility treatments, so they fertilize MANY eggs at a time, of which only a small percent are used for pregnancies. They rest are discarded anyway. Why not make good use of them? Stem cell research can do amazing things. Since these cells are still unspecialized, scientists can develop them into all different kinds of specialized cells and they have been show to be beneficial in the progress of curing many diseases. I know people have ethical concerns against it, but to be honest, many of our scientific advances couldn't have been accomplished without science overruling some people's ethics and morals. For instance, PETA supporters are against animal testing, but they seem to conveniently forget or ignore the fact that many of their medicines they pick up in the pharmacy had to be tested on animals first. Would you really want to be a true "guinea pig" when it comes to putting some chemicals in your body? Highly doubtful. I don't see anything wrong with stem cell research. I think the ends greatly justify the means.

There are two kinds of stem cell research.
Research using stem cells taken from adults has produced dozens and dozens of proven-effective medical treatments. I support this.
The controversial type of stem cell research involves combining a human egg and sperm cell in a dish, and extracting the stem cells from the embryo (this kills the embryo). Embryonic stem cells have not produced any effective medical treatments yet, but some scientists think it might. So far, embryonic stem cells usually develop into tumors.
In the U.S., there is no effort to "ban" embryonic stem cell research, so the frequently asked question, "do you support stem cell research" is misleading. The controversy is only whether to use federal tax dollars to pay for it.
I would argue that it is inappropriate to force all taxpayers to pay for research that some find morally objectionable. Destroying a genetically complete human life -- one that requires only oxygen, nourishment, and a safe place to grow until it reaches adulthood -- is not something that should be mandatory to fund through tax dollars.

i support stem cell research except for embryonic stem cell research
of course. You can get stem cells from umbilical cords and many places of the body I do not however support embryonic stem cell research it is dehumanizing
we learn allot of things from stem cells, if an abortion is terminated the stem cells in the woman's breast can opportunistically become cancerous with younger women being the most at risk and succeptable, particularly the higher the estrogen
but in the end when Hollywood celebs Michael J Fox, Christopher Reeves, and other struggling with debilitaing problems.suffering from some disease make an appeal for EMBRYONIC stem cell research they probably don't realize that they are next... as they devalue the life of a helpless baby they devalue and undermine their own and don't be surprised if the next issue ifs having doctor pull the plug without patients consent which already happens in parts of Europe. Sounds good but bad move in the end you lose more than you gain

Bravo to Pagan Rebirth (above). The suppression of stem cell research is hurtful to the needy and immoral.
Why do Catholics, fundamentalists, and other religious persuasions prefer that excess zygotes (they are not even fetuses, just fertilized eggs and undifferentiated cells at that point)... that they be flushed down the toilet rather than used in medical research?
If these Christians really respect and honor human life, why not mature human life? Maybe they would think differently if it were them or their loved ones who were paraplegic, or had Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease. If not, then they deserve to suffer with their fate but they should be ashamed for imposing that fate on others who respect science rather than mythology.

Yes. It is not as though they are paying women to get abortions to get the cells - they are using zygotes from fertility clinics that would be destroyed anyway.
There is so much to be gained.
Private facilities can still do research - if they can get their own funding, as well as research being don in other countries. It is just in the US there is no government sponsored funding. Maybe some of he celebrities should just raise money for the private research instead of trying to get government money which even if there is a change in policy will take years and lots of red tape to get through.

I do as long as it's adult stem cell research.
Adult research has proven results.
Other types such as embryonic has not proven one good thing and in fact causes tumors in it's paitients, and yet people support the killing of fetus's to provide more failures. Ah the human race what a wonderfulthing

The more you know about stem cell the more it is getting clear on how to vote. I think I will go with trying to help pass it.

Absolutely, because it would help so many people. I personally have diabetes and nerve damage in my spine, both of which would benefit greatly from stem cell research.

Yes. It has the potential to save millions, if not billions (eventually) of lives and futures - the potential to cure some the most debilitating diseases we face. It's very important that we continue to fund stem cell research, and stop blocking research. The Bush administration has lied about the potential of the remaining lines of research that can be done under the restrictions.
No human is being killed for the research, the research is being done on dead tissue that died of other causes. No one is trying to convince women to have abortions specifically for stem cell research.
