Today, my doctor prescribed me Ensure to help gain weight. Do you think insurance will cover it? Thanks in advance.

Yes, Ensure can be prescribed. Ensure can actually come in different strenths just like any medication. Most insurances do cover this as they see it as a supplement. Medicare even covers this. Check with your insurance company.

Ensure absolutely can be prescribed, just have your physician write it on a prescription pad and take it to your pharmacy. The insurance company will likely need more documentation (history of poor weight gain with the methods you've tried to gain weight) but they absolutely should cover it and your physician should be perfectly fine about providing the additional information to the insurance company. That's what they get paid for :)

Good luck!

I've never heard of it being prescribed, so go buy it like the rest of the population would have to and forget about the insurance covering it.

Some insurances do cover it. It depends on your coverage.

Probably not because it is available over the counter.
