In the UK there is a company called P***** P******, who have a very large canning plant - this is where W**** and various other brands come from. Cat meat & dog meat.
In the event of an emergency (war etc), in the space of 20 minutes, they can be churning out tins of HUMAN food.
Now other than changing the labels on the machine, I am guessing that not a great deal is really happening. Perhaps a couple of vitamin additives which are not need for humans are switched off - but I think it is a remarkably fair bet to assume that essentially EVERYTHING is safe to go into the can for humans as well as dogs.
Just like you would not want to eat meat lumps all day without other forms of food - then I would guess eating dog food only would be unwise. Not harmful in itself though - just not balanced.

Well, it won't be poisonous or anything - the food still has to pass tests so it is safe for the dogs to eat so they don't get food poisoning or anything - but it wouldn't be very nice. And if you consider what may well go into the stuff, it would probably put you off anyway. I dare say the odd bite won't do harm, but you likely wouldn't want to eat it as a meal. I have been told the dog food manufacturers employ tasters (humans) to see if the latest brand really does taste appetising and like rabbit, chicken and veg (or whatever flavour), but I don't know if that is true. I reckon so, though, as they cannot advertise a product as tasting of something and it doesn't. All I know is I ate cat food (Kit - E - Kat it was) when I was a child (no, my parents didn't like to feed me strange things, I just was copying the cat!) and it was not nice! I lived, though.

dogs technically aren't supposed to eat human food, so that should answer your question. A dog's digestive system isn't made to handle human food, human food has too many chemicals and preservatives in it, and can make a dog sick and overweight or just generally unhealthy. I really don't know about the people eating dogfood thing though, I'm sure we all ate a little dog kibble when we were kids and we never came to any harm, so I don't think you'd drop over dead from sampling your dog's kibble. But if you intend to try wet dog food, all I can say is that you're a very brave soul 'cause that stuff looks AND smells nasty.

People eat a lot of things depending on their culture and what is available to them. From insects to raw human body parts (cannibalism) to herbivore foods (non- meat eaters.)
If you can palate eating it and it doesn't make you sick within 24 hours it may be reasonably safe to sustain your life. But dog food is made from meats (and other byproducts) that are considered unsafe for human consumption. Dogs digestive tracts can handle meats that have turned rancid 4-5 days after they are humanly inedible.
Though in the long term the effects could cause damage to the nervous system similar to "mad cow disease" or "prion diseases."
My personal belief is anything in moderation won't change your life or cause much harm. It is going to the extremes of total immersion that alter lives with results that can be either positive or negative.

Actually, some dog foods are made from grain, etc. that were deemed unfit for human consumption. So I can't imagine it would be wise to make a habit of consuming it.

I don't think it is going to hurt you, but it can't possibly be so tasty that you would actually want to comsume it.
Read the ingrediants on the can or bag of dog food. You'd be surprised to find out what all goes into dog food.

No it won't hurt you-but why would you want to eat it? It is nasty tasting. yes I do know from experience!
NOTE: never take an elderly person into the pet aisle. My elderly relative picked up some Alpo cans and was gonna buy them because they were cheap and she thought they were people food.
