Second grade students need practice and help. Make sure he doesn't have a learning disability first!!!! Check it out with your family doctor.

There are a lot of inexpensive thing YOU could do with your son to help him with his math. Buy the grade 1 & 2 Math Smart program books. They have games/puzzles/ etc that would be great for some of the basic skills. They cost less then $10 per book, and you can set rewards for him - do two pages and have a piece of gum. Finish the book and we go to McDonalds. Anything to get him doing some math.

Let him measure things - buy him a measuring tape. Grade 2 kids LOVE to measure!

Let him measure things when you are cooking. Here is a cup, here is half a cup. etc etc etc

You can play cards with him to get him practicing numbers.

Here are some good websites for kids to practice math online:

http://www.mathcats.com/

Grade two math is just practice and practical understanding. No grade 2 student needs a math tutor!

I don't know what state you live in, but here in Ohio we have a service called HomeworkNow. It's a live online homework service that is staffed by Ohio librarians. They are open 2pm-midnight. The web site is
www.homeworknow.org
Our son really struggles with math as well. This is an awesome free service.
