Costa Rica . . . it's mentioned everywhere.
Nature's wonderland, with more bird species than in all of North America, more butterfly species than in all of Africa . . . all within an easy day's round trip from the capital, San José.

Cruises to unpopulated tropic isles . . . ascents to the craters of smoking volcanoes . . . superb accommodations, from all-inclusive beach resorts to youth hostels to inns that recall the days when travel was not for the masses.

The booze is cheap (if not everything else), and the sun is reliable.

And to top it off, Costa Rica is Latin America's longest-running democracy, and the Costa Ricans are the continent's friendliest people.

Gone are the days when people thought of Costa Rica as some little-known Caribbean island or confused it with its war-torn neighbors. A Nobel Peace Prize has brought prominence, and has caused the world to take another look at this tropical oasis.

And the world, liking what it has seen, has kept its attention on Costa Rica.

Of course there are problems in travel to Costa Rica, and the biggest is having so much to choose from!

Do you want to see the whole country in a week or two? It's eminently possible.

Do you want to look into the possibilities of retirement?

Perhaps a spa vacation, or a week of fishing in two oceans, or diving among schools of fish that number in the hundreds or even thousands.

Do you want to save the tropical forests by visiting them and learning about their bewildering treasures? Do you want to plant trees?

Or maybe your jungle adventure involves floating down a lazy river, or paddling furiously through rapids, or enjoying cocktails and an ocean view, while howler monkeys roar and bicker, and macaws flitter silently through the air in unearthly beauty.

Nicaragua, hands down.

The people are wonderful, the food is absolutely amazing, and the country itself is just gorgeous. There are a million things to do. You could go to the beach and stay in a 4-star resort or a typical little hotel, or go to the jungle and spend a few nights in a little cottage, or go look at a volcano. You can go cannopying or sightseeing, spend the day on one of hundreds of little islands in Lake Nicaragua, go see colonial cathedrals, and shop for traditional souvenirs. I could go on and on.

It's really an amazing country. People pick on it too much. And, like I said, the food is the best you'll find anywhere else.

It depends on what are you looking for. I've been in all of them. Costa Rica is very nice to go for eco-tourism and see beautiful places, but I don't like people over there. I think they are mean. El Salvador is very nice for doing Business. Panama besides the canal and some fayuca stores, is not that nice. Nicaragua is poor. Guatemala is poor and his main airport looks like Vegas Bus Station or worst, but it has a lot of the Mayan Culture like Tikal. Honduras is poor and doesnt have anything good to offer. Belize has beautiful beaches and landscapes.

costa rica by far, they have less bandits and kidmappings than they do in nicarargua and honduras,,guatemala has some great mayan temples but lots of volcanos..costa rica also has some beaches that will make you think you are staying in paradise and the money exchange is also great, but like all central american countries you must be cautious as a tourist,no matter what country you come from, they think you are weathly and will try to kidnap you ....
