First please find me a Dr, clinic, hospital or even the Amer. Cancer socty, that will come on line for a proven fact and say yes that person died of second hand smoke.. Was that from a car, bus, factory, wood stove, fireplace, cigaretts, cigar, pipe etc etc..Since they have no cure for this and they will not come on line and say yes that person died from SHS becuase there are to many underlying conditions..{Personal family history here) Now if that person smoked or worked in a place that allowed smoking then they say yep SHS,but if they didn't and worked elswhere and died of the same thing then what did they die of? The medical profession is very shaky on this and law suits can abound not only from patients but companies as well...Like ok Doc. prove my cigarettes caused this! they can't..So SHS is nothing more than non-smokers way of trying to get smokers out of the way so they don't have to put up with it...Smokers have rights to and they also own a pc. of this world we live in..I don't advocate smoking but SHS is a very difficult thing to prove..Just my opinion...

For a Republican or Democrat, the proper answer is, "we don't know."

BTW, wasn't it the Dems who used to protect tobacco with huge subsidies, at least until they were voted out of office in those states?

Anyway, no one can say for sure. Those who hope to gain power, money, etc will use some huge number. Those who want to deny a problem will say "zero".

So who do you believe -- one side that wants more gov't funds and power, or the other side that wants more sales?

If you are a Republican, NONE! There is no evidence that tobacco is detrimental to one's health in any way.

If you are Not A Republican, you are probably intelligent enough to do a search for statistics from the American Cancer Society and to know that tobacco has been determined to be detrimental to your health by the Surgeon General.

The answer? Too many.

why this is a political issue is beyond me.

Secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,400 lung cancer deaths and 22,700-69,600 heart disease deaths in adult nonsmokers in the United States each year.
