some wireless mics have an antenna sticking from the bottom, some don't...some have a completely internal antenna...some don't. it depends on the intended range of the mic along with the frequency it uses. mics that operate on a lower frequency require a larger antenna, higher frequencies require a smaller antenna that can be hidden completely inside the unit. an external antenna will give you slightly greater range vs one that doesn't.

it's all in the design of the mic, but yes, it's functional and sometimes necessary for proper function.

so they can trasfer information better. just like the antennas on cars
