This is a Schnauzer, he is going to be 2 years old. The medicine was given to give on Sunday. Apparently he had Tapeworm.

Sometimes, if the worm infestation was severe enough, the deworming process will cause some bloody mucoussy discharge. He could also be having an allergic reaction or sensitivity to the medication. Deworming can also cause cramping, upset stomach and other "flu like" symptoms, that could be making him look sad. Call your vet's office and ask one of his nurses.

First, what kind of dog? Which de-wormer did your vet use?

Although small amounts of blood in the stool after de-worming is quite common, you still have reason to be concerned. Has the dog passed worms out in his stool?

I'm assuming the vet gave you de-wormer after doing a fecal floatation. Did he happen to mention which type of intestinal parasites your dog is suffering from?

Are there any other symptoms? You said he looks sad, but is his energy level different? Any vomiting? How long ago was the de-wormer given?

If the bloody stool continues for more than three days, or becomes excessive, or the dog begins developing additional symptoms; you should call your vet immediately to have him check the dog again.

Blood in a dogs stool isn't normal, but may be caused by the dewormer if it has expelled a great amount of stool.Within 24 hours it should be back to normal and if not call the vet,but if a large amount of blood, would call vet asap.

He is having an adverse reaction. De-worming meds can be very strong. Give your vet a call. I don't think its an emergency but better safe than sorry. If you can't reach your regular vet, try an emergency vet in the area.

a little blood is normal in wormy dogs because of the stress in the intestines from the worms, but i would call the vet and talk to them just to be safe

no, that's not normal at all! Deworming medicine isn't supposed to make the dog that sick, I would advise you to take him back to the vet as soon as possible.

I have never heard of wormer doing this. You need to ask a vet about it.
