NO.
Hiccup is due to increase activity of the ( vagus ) nerve , which supplies the DIAPHRAGM causing increased contraction of the diaphragm which is hiccups.
The best way to treat it is to hold a tea spoon (filled with suger) close to the mouth & try to inhale it into your mouth, this will cause the suger particles to hit the back part of the pharynx(also supplied by the vagus nerve),this will (OVER-RIDE)the increased acitivity of the vagus nerve to the diaphragm,
this maneuvour will simply make the vagus nerve "busy" receiving impulses from the pharynx & "forgetting" the impulses to/from the diaphragm so the diaphragm will cease contracting which means there will be no hiccups any more.

No, A lack of oxygen causes yawning. Hiccups are caused by a muscle spasm in the diaphragm. Holding your breath briefly stretches out the muscle and allows the spasm to subside as with any other muscle.

Well, I had a learned physician tell me that my hiccups that I had had for 24 hours could be caused by a hair tickling in my ear. I told him he was crazy but he said no there was research to back him up.

So he rinsed out my ears, my hiccups stopped and he showed me an eyelash that he had washed out of my left ear.

So was that lack of Oxygen, the hair tickling a nerve ending or phychosomatic....

No, it is a spasm in the diaphram caused by too much oxygen. It's a carbon dioxide shortage. If you have them and breath into a plastic bag and keep breathing in carbon dioxide it will get rid of your hiccups.

No, you get hiccups because your larynx is dry. Holding my breath for 20 seconds always helps me, I don't know why, but it does.

Not at all. It has something to do with your pyloric sphincter convulsing, I think.
