It depends on whether you want to visit a large city (Vancouver) or a small town, and what time of the year. Of course, there are always things to do anytime.
B.C. is noted for it's clean air, mountains, skiing, trees, fishing, lakes, hiking trails and campgrounds.
If you wish to visit a large city, you can't go wrong with Vancouver as there are MANY things to see and do with theatres, shopping, museums, etc. However, if you'd rather go to the next level and experience something unique, head to Vancouver Island. It's a 90 minute ferry ride from the southern end of Vancouver, not far from the U.S. border. Victoria is the largest city with several municipalities attached. (weird concept, I know). The population of Greater Victoria is about 320,000 compared to over a million in the Vancouver area. There are also museums, theatres, night clubs, whale watching, golf courses and the magnificent Butchart Gardens.
There are several smaller towns up-island which, in total, bring the population of the Island to about 700,000. Each little town is known for something ..... murals, native art, shopping, surfing, etc. There are smaller islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland which are also worth seeing. Most of them seem to be inhabited by 'folksy' people who earn a living doing 'crafts' etc. It's like another world..... Some islands have high-end accomodation and some only have B & B's. You'd have to look into that.
Reasons to visit Vancouver Island...... 1. mild climate 2. usually not much snow in Victoria 3. excellent skiing mid-island 3. usually not TOO hot 4. ocean... fishing and whale watching 5 . exceptional golfing 6. relaxing atmosphere 7. ferry trip 8. because I love it here! 9. and, of course, because there are 2 Butterfly Worlds! 10. Lots of retired folks here too..... :o)
I'm not trying to dismiss the rest of the province, I'm just promoting my lovely Island. :o) If you want more info, please write.
